2009 Edina Chardonnay
The Philosophy:
Gofessel Vineyards is dedicated to producing Burgundian-style estate wines from fruit meticulously cultivated in beautiful Sonoma, California. We take pride in organically cultivating the land to sustainably produce the highest quality fruit. From this fruit, we handcraft elegant and distinctive wines that honor the local region and terroir.
The Vineyard:
Gofessel Vineyards Estate is the located in the North West corner of the Sonoma Carneros AVA where the vineyards are ideally suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Under the mindful eye of organic guru Phil Coturri, we cultivate from just over 3.5 acres of organically farmed vineyards. The Chardonnay vineyard was planted in 2003 and the Pinot Noir vineyard was planted in 2008.
The Winemaking:
“Edina” is a crisp, clean, aromatic white wine that will both drink well today and age well for 5-10 years. To produce “her”, we strictly control temperatures throughout the winemaking process to preserve the aromatics while introducing just a small amount of oak to complete the mouth feel. Although it is impossible to replicate the growing conditions of Chablis here in Sonoma, we feel that we successfully deliver on wine that is soft on the palate, delicately oaked with just a hint of vanilla, and fruit-forward enough to be compared to many of Premier Cru wines of the Chablis.
Tasting Notes:
With our second vintage, we feel that both the vineyard and our winemaking are coming together to produce a truly special wine. You will taste the clear range of expression that Chardonnay can provide from green apple, to crisp melon, and all the way to fresh pineapple. With clear acidity and a hint of oak, the 2009 Edina Chardonnay will pair well with a wide range of foods including the traditional Chardonnay pairs of shellfish and seafood as well as more complex pairings like Asian cuisine, artichokes, hard cheeses, and even chocolate.
